Nam Marabu Series 4 (2025)
In its fourth and final 2025 edition, the Nam Marabu series featured renowned Bihu practitioners Manob Jyoti Gogoi and Jasmine Chetia Phukan, who brought to life the energetic and celebratory folk dance of Assam. Held from May 21st to May 25th, the programme provided a rare opportunity for Singapore audiences to experience the vibrant rhythms, cultural symbolism, and joyous community spirit that define this Northeast Indian tradition. Through workshops and masterclasses the artists engaged close to 200 participants across a wide spectrum of ages and backgrounds. Participants, of whom many were learning about this dance form for the first time, were introduced to the cultural roots and celebratory rhythms of Bihu through hands-on sessions that explored its dynamic footwork, clapping patterns, and expressive group movement. The programme was widely appreciated for expanding the Nam Marabu spotlight beyond South Indian forms and into less commonly represented traditions. The strong response reflected a clear appetite for more workshops that explore underrepresented folk practices through immersive, creative formats.
