Nam Marabu Series 3 (2025)
In its third 2025 edition, the Nam Marabu series welcomed esteemed folk arts exponent Gurunathan Muthukannu, celebrated for his work in Thudumbattam and other Tamil folk traditions. Held from April 23rd to April 27th, the programme offered a rare, immersive encounter with this vibrant yet lesser-known percussion-based dance form. Through a series of workshops and community sessions, Mr Gurunathan engaged over 160 participants across diverse age groups and backgrounds. His energetic and participatory teaching style encouraged dialogue around cultural identity and intergenerational transmission of knowledge. A highlight of the week was a special engagement at Sunlove Home, where the session was adapted for seniors—offering a moving example of heritage bridging generations. The strong response from both schools and the wider community reflected a growing interest in Tamil folk arts and a desire for deeper, sustained engagement with Singapore’s intangible heritage.
